The Morocco national futsal team secured a resounding 6-0 victory over their Egyptian counterparts on Monday evening in the semi-final of the Futsal Africa Cup of Nations held in Rabat.
The Atlas Lions produced a spectacular display of the finest African futsal, imposing their rhythm from the opening minutes and leaving the Pharaohs no room to get back into the match.
With this result, Morocco booked their place in the final, moving another step closer to retaining their continental title and reinforcing their status as a major force in futsal across the African continent.
Moroccan dominance from the start
Morocco entered the clash with high confidence after a perfect group stage campaign, in which they won three consecutive matches against Algeria, Zambia and Libya, scoring 17 goals without conceding.
The national team players maintained the same attacking approach against Egypt, with high pressing, quick ball transitions and intelligent use of space, which unsettled the Egyptian defence and weakened their ability to build attacks.
Morocco scored their goals in quick succession, sealing the match early and giving their fans the chance to celebrate reaching the final ahead of time, while Egypt appeared unable to cope with Morocco’s pace and defensive organisation.
Egypt exit with bitter disappointment
Egypt, three-time African champions, had entered the match hoping to cause an upset and return to the final, especially after reaching the semi-finals despite a 4-2 defeat to Angola in their final group-stage match.
However, the Pharaohs came up against a Morocco side at their very best, failing to convert their few chances and making costly defensive errors that turned into easy goals for their opponents.
This heavy defeat is a major blow for Egypt, who had hoped to face Morocco with a positive result, before exiting the tournament at the semi-final stage after a lacklustre performance against the defending champions and hosts.
Morocco await final opponent
In the final, Morocco will face the winner of the second semi-final between Angola and Algeria, another eagerly anticipated match in the Futsal Africa Cup of Nations.
The Atlas Lions are aiming to win their fourth consecutive title, having been crowned champions in 2016, 2020 and 2024, to confirm their absolute dominance of futsal in Africa.
After this emphatic win over Egypt, Morocco appear mentally and physically ready to contest the final with full ambition, amid an enthusiastic atmosphere from the fans in the capital, Rabat.
